Improve HTC Battery Life
Improve HTC Desire Battery life and all windows and android htc devices
A common question we hear about HTC devices is how do I improve battery life? Today we will try and help you answer this question with some simple and easy to follow instructions.
Before we go into detail it is worth understanding a little bit about your device and why it can be such a power hungry little sucker. All Htc mobile devices are effectively small computers, be they a PDA, Phone, Smartphone they are all computers packed into great looking cases. Just like a computer your Htc device will be running a lot of processes 100% of the time. Not all of these processes are things you need to have running and this is the best place for us to start.
Things YOU can do to Improve your Htc Device Battery Performance
- Check that Bluetooth is turned off.
- Check in Task Manager (start->settings->system) and stop any unnecessary programs you may find.
- If you use GPS / Sat Nav on your device ensure that it is turned off when not in use. You can do this by taking the following steps:
Start > Settings > System tab >Task Manager - Turn off your wi-fi connectivity when not being used.
- Check that Power Save Mode is set to Best Performance in the Wireless LAN settings. You check this here:
Start > Settings > Connections tab > Wireless LAN > Power Mode tab - Modifying your synchronising schedule can drastically improve your battery life. We recommend you increase the time interval for checking and receiving emails whenever possible - perhaps outside of work hours, whatever suits you best.
Start> Programs > ActiveSync > Menu > Schedule to adjust the sync status in Peak time and Off-peak time. - Ensure the Backlight is not on 100% of the time. You can set your device to auto adjust the backlight depending on the ambient light levels. You can try this by going to:
Start > Settings > Backlight tab and then select check Auto adjust backlight - When in standby mode your device will use less power in WCDMA mode than GSM. The flipside is that in talk mode, GSM uses lesser power than WCDMA. You can make the phone auto switch depending on mode by doing the following:
Start > Settings > Phone > Band tab, and then set your network type to Auto.
There is a lot you can do to look after your battery as well such as ensuring you never let it go completely out of charge.
HTC Desire and HTC Desire HD owners
Here's a simply procedure you can do that has been said to double your battery time. It does seem strange at first but enough people have reported it's working to warrant putting here so here you go:
Follow these steps to improve your Desire and Desire HD battery performance
- 1) With the Desire switched on, charge the Desire / Desire HD for EIGHT hours or more
- 2) Having unplugged the device from the power cable turn the phone off, then charge it for a further one hour.
- 3) With the device now unplugged turn it on for two minutes, then again turn it off (remember to keep it unpugged) then charge it for another hour.
Oddly the end result is your battery life should be close to doubled.
