Touch Flo 3D - The 3 Most Common Problems SOLVED!

Many issues have been logged regarding Touch Flo 3D on most HTC Phones. Not all of them have been fixed but we do know HTC are working through them. Here we will discuss a few of the issues and their status.

Touch Flo 3D is part of the Today screen and provides a unique animated and fast interface to many features on the phones that you control with your finger. It was created by HTC to respond to the new UI capabilities of the Apple iPhone. Because of this it is not part of the Operating System on the ROM and therefore it can take up quite a lot of resource leading to a lower level of performance from the phone - some use the word "sluggish".

There are some issues with it and here are some common problems and solutions.

Problem 1 - Touch Flo 3D is not installed

While Touch Flo 3D is on every Touch phone when it is shipped, it is not always installed and configured. To see if Touch Flo 3D is turned off go to Start->Settings->Today->Items and check if Touch Flo 3D is in the list. If it is tick the box next to the entry and press ok. If it is not in the list you will need to do a hard reset (ensure of course that you have backed up everything - maybe even contact HTC support). If you have an encrypted memory card in the device turn the encryption off before doing the hard reset.

Problem 2 - Music Jumping, New Mail, New Text

You may find that you start seeing some strange behaviour, such as

  • being told you have new mail, or a text when in fact you do not
  • music jumps, or stutters
  • phone being sluggish
  • other randomness

The bad news there is no way of uninstalling Touch Flo 3D however you can disable it by going to Start->Settings->Today->Items and unchecking the tick box. Also you will find hotfixes here on the htc support site.

If you have installed non HTC or non Microsoft media players this could be responsible for music stuttering or jumping. It can be a trial and error process to uncover the culprit. It has also been rumoured that people are finding that using a bluetooth headset while listening to music can be the cause although we have no confirmation of this from HTC.

Problem 3 - Synchronizing Taking Far Too Long

Several users have reported that synchronizing their data with their computer via cabled Active Sync can take hours instead of the usual seconds/minutes. It would appear that this is at least in part caused by Touch Flo 3D making the phone sluggish. Disabling Touch Flo 3D before synchronizing and turning it on after is a solution - all be it a frustrating one.
