What is an HTC Rom?
Before leaping into the specifics of the HTC Rom it's worth thinking about what a Rom is. A Rom is a physical piece of memory that stores information. It is Read Only which means that other than one time updates the information on it is used for reading rather than storage. This is the main difference between the type of memory you may be familiar with in PCs - RAM, which is read/write enabled.
So why is it important to know what a ROM is when looking at your HTC Touch, HTC Touch Pro, smartphone, diamond or any Htc device?
In short, all Htc mobile devices store their Operating System on a ROM. When you want to update this Operating System you will update the ROM. Apart from the Htc G1 all Htc mobile devices use Microsoft Windows Mobile. Htc release ROM Updates for all their devices regularly as well as intermitent Hotfixes. As well as official HTC ROM Upgrades there are unofficial updates made by XDA developers, open source communities and anyone who has the interest and skill to make one.
All updates are phone specific so you will find htc touch rom updates, htc diamond rom updates, htc smartphone rom updates and so on. They also may have their own instructions and direction on how to upgrade your Htc ROM.
Htcrom.com will be adding information on these Htc ROM updates both old and new across the entire Htc Product Range.
